What changes should I expect?

The biggest change will be the way that you meet your enrollment status requirements during registration
. The easiest way to understand the change is to think in semesters. Columbia College now offers three semesters: fall, spring, and summer. Each semester is made up of two eight-week sessions, an early and a late eight-week session.

Enrollment Status

In order to be considered a full-time or half-time student, you must register for the semester. In other words, you have to register for both the early and late sessions if you need to maintain an enrollment status, like full-time or half-time. Students who receive financial aid, or require proof of their enrollment status for things like private scholarships, public assistance qualification, or student discounts, will be responsible for meeting the requirements. What are the requirements?

Are classes still eight-weeks? Why do I need to think about my registrations as a semester?

Yes, classes are still eight-weeks long. Thinking, and registering, by semester will ensure that you meet the enrollment status needed for financial aid and a number of other reasons.

When are my breaks?

In the graphic below, you can see that there is a two week break when the Late Fall 8-Week Session ends. Additionally, there is a one week at the end of the Late Spring and Late Summer 8-Week Sessions. Below the graphic, you will find additional important dates for academic year 2016-2017, including annual holidays: Labor Day, Martin Luther King, Memorial Day, and Independence Day.
